In their own words

My father's Seiko 5 had been sitting in a drawer for the better part of a decade. I brought it here expecting a quick battery job and found out it was actually an automatic — something I didn't know. Choon Seng explained this calmly, showed me the rotor, and we agreed on the rebuild. Four and a half weeks later the thing runs beautifully. The service sheet was detailed and I actually understand what was done.

I had a quartz watch that kept losing time even after I replaced the battery myself. Brought it here and they found corroded contacts — something I'd never have spotted. They cleaned everything, renewed the seal, pressure-tested it, and now it's running within a few seconds per week. Honest about what they found and didn't try to sell me anything beyond what was needed.

I've been on the custodianship programme for just over a year now. Seven pieces — a mix of Citizen automatics, two vintage Seikos, and a Longines from the 1960s. Having a rotation plan and knowing which piece is due for service next makes the whole thing manageable. The photographic inventory alone was worth it. I know exactly what I have and it's all on paper.

The repair took a bit longer than I expected — closer to six weeks — but the amplitude readings on the service sheet were something I'd never seen from another repairer. The movement had been running at too low an amplitude and I didn't know. It's been three months since the rebuild and it's keeping time as well as the specs say it should.

I brought in a solar watch that had been sitting unused for two years. The staff explained why solar watches need to be kept exposed to light and what happens to the capacitor when they're stored flat in a drawer. Battery was fine, contacts cleaned, case resealed. I appreciated being told what I was doing wrong rather than just having the thing handed back without comment.

I inherited a 1968 Omega Seamaster from my uncle. A friend recommended Tickwright as someone who would treat it properly rather than just getting it running. They sourced a replacement mainspring from a supplier in Switzerland — it took an extra two weeks — and told me in advance what that would cost. The watch is now my daily piece. I wouldn't have trusted it with anyone else.

Three jobs in more detail
Case 01 — Vintage Automatic Rebuild
A 1972 Tissot Seastar that ran for two hours and stopped
Challenge
The owner had purchased the watch from an estate sale. It ran when worn but stopped within two hours of being set down. Previous work appeared to have been done at some point but there were no records. The mainspring was suspected but not confirmed.
What we did
Full disassembly confirmed a fatigued mainspring and worn keyless works. The click spring had also been improperly fitted by a previous technician. Donor parts were sourced from a Swiss parts supplier. The rotor was refinished and amplitude logged over 72 hours post-assembly.
Outcome
Power reserve restored to approximately 38 hours. Amplitude at full wind: 275°. Rate: +4 seconds per day. The owner received a full service sheet with the amplitude log attached. Timeline: five weeks and two days from intake.
"I didn't expect to get this much information back with the watch. It makes me feel like I know what I own now." — owner, Pulau Tikus
Case 02 — Collection Custodianship
A small collection of nine pieces with no existing records or storage plan
Challenge
A client's father had accumulated nine mechanical watches over thirty years. After his passing, the family was unsure which pieces were running, which had been serviced, and how to store them properly. No serial records existed.
What we did
We enrolled the collection in the custodianship programme and built a photographic inventory across two visits. Storage advisory was issued based on the mix of automatics and quartz. Two pieces were identified as needing service within the year; the others were assessed as within normal tolerance.
Outcome
At the end of twelve months the family had a complete written record of all nine pieces — references, serials, movement condition notes, and a staged service plan for the next three years. Two pieces were returned to running condition during the year.
"It was a way of honouring what he'd collected without having to rush decisions about what to do with each piece." — client, Tanjung Bungah
Case 03 — Quartz Battery Care
A kinetic watch that stopped after being stored for eighteen months
Challenge
A Seiko kinetic that had been stored over a long period would not restart by wearing. Two previous attempts at battery replacement at different shops had not resolved the issue. The owner was concerned the capacitor was depleted.
What we did
Inspection confirmed the capacitor was not depleted — it was the coil contacts that had oxidised from the extended storage. After contact cleaning and movement inspection the watch resumed normal kinetic charging. Gasket was renewed and case pressure tested before return.
Outcome
Watch returned to normal function. The owner was briefed on appropriate storage intervals for kinetic movements — the same information was included in the service sheet. Work completed same day from intake.
"Nobody had told me you can't just store a kinetic in a box indefinitely. Knowing that is worth more than the repair itself." — owner, Sungai Nibong
